Enigma’s CCTV site in Stafford is to star in Channel 5’s television series, ‘Caught on Camera’.
The show focusses on the benefits of CCTV cameras in society and screens incidents in which CCTV has helped catch criminals and secured convictions or assisted the public and authorities in a range of incidents.
Stafford Borough Council was especially chosen by the show’s producers owing to its successful partnerships with businesses, local police and other organisations, which have resulted in cutting crime in the area.
The CCTV operation is based in the town’s Civic Centre and the Operations team consists of Barbara Ashton and Marc Wood. The team are currently in the process of recruiting further Operatives.
The production team spent many hours reviewing footage and filming on the streets of Stafford both through the day and at weekend nights as well as speaking at length with Barbara, pictured, who, for once, got to experience life in front of the cameras rather than behind it.
She said: "The film crew was keen to see footage of the day-to-day operations from the CCTV Control Room. I showed them how we responded to calls from businesses and the police to a range of issues where they needed the help of CCTV in successfully catching offenders.
"It is important we get good footage of the incidents so it can be used in future prosecutions if required – and this is something that the film crew were keen to capture.
"It was a new and different experience being in front of the camera rather than my usual role of being the one behind the camera, so to speak. But because the job requires a lot of concentration, and you are always focussed on what you are doing, I very soon forgot the TV cameras were there. I can't wait until Wednesday to see how it will actually come across on the telly."
Enigma would like to congratulate all the CCTV Operators based at the Stafford site for all their hard work and for the deserved national recognition they have received.
The episode will be aired on 10th June 2015 at 9pm on Channel 5.
