Enigma Security news
Cycling for Charity
This month, the Enigma blog caught up with new TUPE employee, Tyrone Candee, Security Officer who recently took part in a 400 mile bike ride for charity.
The bike ride involved Tyrone cycling from London to Land’s End, in four days on a single speed road bike.
Tyrone said that he was motivated to raise money for Great Ormond Street Hospital “as this is a charity I donate to each month and as a father, I could not imagine going through what some of the children in the hospital and their parents have to go through.”
Tyrone explains that his preparation involved him riding his bike everyday to work, with three months of full training. He would also cycle between 100-150 miles a week in the last six weeks leading up to the bike ride, and cycled to London a few times to see what it was like to ride 100 miles in a day.
Tyrone was not alone in his cycling challenge. “I, along with my friend, Matthew Jennings, would cycle between 10-12 hours a day and we would camp at night so we would have to carry everything with us on our bikes.”
He also revealed that during the ride he “suffered three flat tyres, a crash and got lost so many times that we lost count! Although we had all kinds of weather to contend with from heavy rain storms to lovely sunshine, we cycled through some lovely towns and cities including London, Bath, Glastonbury and Newquay.”
Tyrone is not planning on stopping his cycle challenges just yet either. “I believe we may be cycling from Ipswich to Paris next year, so long as my girlfriend lets me! I’ll also have to brush up on my French beforehand too!”
Tyrone managed to raise almost £600.00 for his bike ride with Enigma donating £250.00 to his cause.
Tyrone passed on his thanks to Enigma for the donation and said: “Every penny really helps the children and can make such a difference to their quality of life and stay at the hospital.” If you would also like to make a donation, you can do so directly by visiting the charity’s website.
Enigma would like to congratulate Tyrone for his efforts in completing his cycling challenge.
